Dear Sir:

At the meeting of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution held today, the resolution given on the accompanying sheet was unanimously adopted. 

In the absence of the Secretary, who is momentarily indisposed, I beg to say that a suitable place for the exhibit suggested can be prepared within ten days from notification from you of the date at which you may decide to send a selection of your collection here. 

The Board also desired that there be conveyed to you an expression of their high appreciation of the generosity of your offer. 

In view of the fact that there have been frequent requests from the newspapers for information concerning your offer, and of the feeling on the part of the Board that correspondence which has passed between you and the Institution was confidential, I was instructed to inquire
