Dear Mr. Rathbun: 

Practically all of the ancient Chinese paintings contained in our collection need removal from their present mounts and remounting in panel form. There are no workmen in this country competent to do the work, so I have arranged to have two Japanese, skilled mechanics in this line of work, come to America ere long to perform the necessary service. They expect to leave Japan late in September or early in October and will arrive at one of the American Pacific ports -- probably Seattle -- and will be accompanied by a Japanese resident of the United States who is a friend of mine. 

It has occurred to me that possibly the bringing to America of these two foreigners
