Dear Doctor Allen:-

Since my note to you of March 20th, I have examined with much interest, the list of objects in the collection of M. dePlancy, and I judge that a large percentage of the specimens are not in sympathy with the collections already in my care. The "Chinese Hard Stones" are much smaller than I had fancied and in fact, I presume, of much later date; the same is true, I presume, of the paintings "Chinese, Japanese and Corean." Some of the "Corean Stone Buddhas" and "Chinese Bronzes" I fancy, are of much interest. Other of the objects named, are presumably well worthy of most careful examination, but, I very much fear that there number is to small to warrant consideration on my part of purchasing the entire collection.

I am now planning to spend the summer in Europe and am quite likely to be in Paris before May 15th. If M. dePlancy should be in Paris during the time of my visit, I should enjoy meeting him and examining at least, some of the art specimens mentioned in his list. May I trouble you to write him to this effect, and will you thank him in my behalf for the carefully prepared list which I am returning to you herewith.

I am greatly obliged to you for your kind cooperation in this matter.

Yours very sincerely,
Charles L. Freer

Dr. Horace N. Allen,
Toledo, Ohio.
