My dear Mrs. Fenollosa:-
Your good letter of the 4th, inst., is received with pleasure. I quite understand, your feelings concerning the disposition of the prints, and I have to-day written to Mr. Gookin as you suggested asking him to correspond with you directly on the subject. I am confident that with his cooperation you can quickly learn what the possibilities are of disposing of the collection in Chicago, either in whole or in part. When Mr. Gookin writes you I believe, he will make the situation very plain, so that you will know pretty well what the prospects are in his city.

I shall see Mr. Ushikubo in New York next week before sailing, and I shall talk with him too concerning the prints. You can rest assured of his cooperation and should there be the slightest objection on his part or the other members of his firm, to releasing a part or all of the collection prior to the payment of the $4,000.00 due on the mortgage, I will cheerfully endorse the promissory note held by his firm, which will, of course, over-come any business reasons they may have for not releasing the prints. I mention this latter matter only as a possibility as I feel very sure, that Mr. Ushikubo and his associates will be delighted to cooperate with you in making the sale.
