I was pleased to receive your letter written on September 3rd on board the "Derffilinger" and to learn how fortunate your enforced stay in Hong Kong, owing to the repairs to the ship's propeller, proved by the pleasant visit with Doctor Voritzscher and his friends, and to know that you were well and happy. I also note from your letter the purchase in Hong Kong of a few objects and the issuance of a draft on September 1st for £150 against your Letter of Credit. And we were also pleased to learn from your cablegram of the 30th your itinerary after leaving Peking on the 12th and your directions to forward letters to Yokohama.

I sent to you two letters on September 28th (one of which, however, contained only newspaper clippings and printed matter), both addressed to Peking and of course, you will have left there before the letters are received in Peking, so to make sure they are forwarded you, although I know you will give directions to the Hong Kong - Shanghai Banking Corporation for forwarding, I thought best to write the Bank at Peking (which I have done), requesting them to forward the letters to you at Yokohama, in case they have not already done so. Sailing from Japan November 24th for San Francisco, should, I suppose, bring you home about the middle of December.

Yesterday I received from Congdon & Co., Cairo, a statement of their charges in connection with the shipment of the things as instructed by Mr. Nahman, amount, including packing, cartage, freight to New York, insurance for Two thousand Pounds, etc., £25-3-11, a remittance for which I shall send them to-day. Their letter and statement show that there are three cases in the shipment and they are coming via Hamburg to New York. Congdon & Co. write
