Willard Straight, Esq.,

New York, N. Y.

Dear Mr. Straight: -

You kind letter of January 7th gives me great pleasure. I took the liberty of proposing your name as one of the General Committee organized to consider the possibility of organizing a School of Archaeology in China, knowing full well that if your co-operation could be secured, the Committee would profit greatly thereby. Your ready acceptance of a place on the Committee honors and encourages all of its members, and every man will appreciate your interest and assistance in the work.

I thank you also for inviting me to let you know when I shall next visit New York. It will give me great pleasure to meet you again and discuss things Chinese with both you and McCormick. I cannot at present state positively the time of my next visit, but I trust it will be about the 20th instant, and I hope to remain in New York the greater part of that week.

Looking forward with pleasure to this event, I remain,
Very sincerely yours,
