I have the honor to report in accordance with Circular letter Hd Qrs Bu R. F & A. L. State of Texas of date Dec 31st 1866 that I entered on the duties of Sub Asst Com'r in this County on the sixteenth? day of Oct 1866 since which time I have been kept very busy, my office hours are from eight am to six pm. I have been absent but one day from my office.  That was in the month of Dec when I went a few miles into the country to examine some fencing that was in dispute having no other means of ascertaining.  A large number of cases of assault & battery have been reported to me in which the accused parties had left the country.  I would hear remark that people are a migratory class being what is most commonly called cow-boys.  from their vocation of stock raising I have investigated four cases of assault & battery.  One on the person of a madman an aggravated case.  I fined the deft Stewart Campbell in the sum of fifty dollars ($50.00).  The second on the
