I have not been cognizant of any cases for the month where the Civil Authorities have refused to take action.
The County Court was in Session on the first of the month and all cases were tried by a loyal colored jury.
The feelings of the white people toward the Colored remains about the same but they seem to desire to treat them better than they have heretofore.
In regard to education, the freed people evince a desire to contribute all means in their power to advance it. I collected $131 from them to aid in building their Church. The white people of the place are also subscribing very liberally.
There are now in operation in this Sub Dist. three schools, one on the Trinity River taught by Mrs John Rogers, twenty scholars; one at Stubblefields Mill taught by Mrs Sarah Whiteman, fifteen scholars; and one at Huntsville taught by Mrs Tanner, twenty scholars. The Post Office address of the three teachers above mentioned is Huntsville, Texas.
