THE CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART
FREDERIC ALLEN WHITING DIRECTOR
CLEVELAND OHIO
U. S. A.
March 3, 1919.

Mr. Charles L. Freer,
33 Ferry Avenue,
Detroit, Michigan.

My dear Mr. Freer:
I have asked Mr. Kent of the Metropolitan Museum to send a copy of the last Bulletin of the Museum to you, as I particularly wish that you would read the first two pages containing an appeal from Mr. Robert W. de Forest, President of the Museum, and a report from Mr. Robinson, the Director, on the series of six Saturday evening orchestral concerts which have been given at the museum during the last year.

Mrs. Whiting and I had the pleasure of attending one of the January concerts, which was a most impressive and beautiful affair with the thousands of people sitting or standing quietly for the program and the remarkable effect of the music in the fine entrance hall, etc.

It is all of particular interest to us in bearing out the soundness of our effort to incorporate music as one of the activities of the Museum here; and for this reason we wish to have all of the Trustees and Councillors familiar with this other notable effort which you will notice is being extended still further.

I hope it may be possible to have at the Museum, from time to time, concerts by our own local Symphony Orchestra, and am to have a conference with Mr. Sokoloff on the subject as soon as he returns from New York. This would probably entail between $400. and $500. for the orchestra and expenses, which would have to be met by contributions from friends who would like to see this form of co-operation. If the plan works I hope we may be able to give at least one concert of this sport this spring.

Yours very truly,
F A. Whiting
Director.
