Dear Mr. Freer:
Your kind letters of September 11th, 20th, 22nd, and 26th, reached me in safety. With much obliged to you for you loaned me the money. in your kind letter of Sept, 22nd, enclosing a blank promissory note covering the ($10,000.00,) American gold borrowed from you on which I have signed my name and it is returned enclosing in this letter.

The ten pictures will be sent to you within a few days by the " Empress of Russia " and they are truly extraordinary fine I am thinking that they must be interesting to you and you will know as soon as have examined them. I am also with many thanks for you cabled me fifteen thousand American gold dollar for the value of the jades, potteries, and the ten paintings, from the Dutsche Associate bank of Shanghai, on Oct, 20th,
