Shanghai, China.

My dear Mr. Yue:

Since my collaborator, Miss Rhoades, wrote to you her recent letter, mail from China arrived, bringing your interesting letter of July 25th with its intelligent price list and descriptive sheets of the art objects sent to me in the four cases, all of which reached Detroit in safety. With these documents - all of which are very plainly prepared - I will have no difficulty whatever in identifying each object with its number, price and description, and I appreciate the intelligent care exercised in the preparation of the sheets. As my strength improves I shall enjoy examining most carefully each of the various objects - but this I must undertake by degrees because of my present illness.

Eight of the paintings have already been sent here from Detroit, and I am just about to examine them carefully, - then I shall take up the next eight paintings - and so on, by degrees, will inspect the jade, bronze and potteries, and after the inspection of everything has been finished I can tell just which objects I shall keep for my own collection and the others I will either sell for you to my friends, or, if that is impossible, I will store them carefully
