My official business during the month of March has been settling up some accounts of '67 and approving contracts for 1868 office hours from 9 to 12 m & 1 to 4 o'clock pm No days absent three was at San Marcos attending to official business

"State the number of Troops at your Post and the necessity for the same; whether or not the freed people would be secure if they were removed; in other words will the civil authorities protect them and give them justice; &c., &c."
There are no troops here and do not need any I send orders by complainant for Deft to appear if he does not obey I go myself & fine him & compel him to appear at my office The civil authorities are incapable of protecting freedmen in this Sub Dist
