The Apprentice Law Vagrant Law and Labor Law are not much observed. The right of citizenship is withheld as far as possible from freed people and the judgement of jury men in courts seems, in most cases where freedmen are concerned, to be blinded by prejudice

J.W. Stephenson is the sheriff of Lamar County and he has appointed several deputies. He and all his deputies but one live some miles in the country while but one lives in town. There is no town marshal or constable. The sheriff has not been in town for six weeks. What can I do through the civil authorities? Nothing - unless I have some support -
