"Report the disposition and feeling of the white people towards the freed people as expressed by words and actions."

The disposition of the rebels here, is to use all the means in their power to deprive the colored people of the right to suffrage, where flattering does not take, threats are used, to give them no employment, such a course is recommended, and advertised in the Corpus Christi Advertisers, and some boast of the amount of work they leave already deprived the freemen of or It is the fear of the Bureau authority, that keeps the rebels from committing outrages upon the freemen.

EDUCATION.
"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction and in what manner they may be assisted, &c. &c."

The freedpeople are striving to learn to read, with varied success, they have built a House for Church and School purposes where they have preaching, and sabbath school, evvery sabbath, and [[strikeout]] preaching [[/strikeout]] prayer meetings, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

The freed people have no regular day school, but and and assist each other to learn to read as they have opportunity and capacity, their success has been quite as much as could be expected, under such an arrangement.  I cannot find a colored person that is capable, nor a white person that is willing, to teach a colored school.  The prejudice against the freedpeople is so strong among the rebels and the indifference so great towards them generally that
