"Give a statement of the official business transacted during the month, its nature, and your method of disposing of the same. State your office hours, the number of days absent from office, if any, and reason for the same."

I have transacted all business brought before me during the month, it has been principally complaints about the division of crops. have examined the accounts and effected settlements. I have no regular office hours for the Bureau, have not been absent since I took charge.

"State the number of Troops at your Post and the necessity for the same; whether or not the freed people would be secure if they were removed; in other words, will the civil authorities protect them and give them justice? &c.

One Co. with a strength of thirty nine men present for duty but decreasing every day by expiration of term of service, they are necessary. They have a good moral effect. The disposition of the mass of the people is to protect the freed people in their rights. There are dishonest & lawless people in this as well as in other communities whom the effect of having an armed force has the tendency to check. I think that the civil authorities will protect & give the freed people justice, when their cases are properly presented
