Only Race Woman With Major Rank Visits Sacramento

Major Della H. Raney, the only race woman holding the rank of major in the army nurses corps, is visiting in Sacramento while on terminal leave from her assignment as chief nurse at Camp Beale.

Major Raney, who entered the service five years ago at Fort Bragg, N. C., as a second lieutenant, is looking

Race Major In Nurses Corps Visits Norfolk

NORFOLK-Major Della H. Raney, only member of the race with this rank in the United States Army Nurses Corps, was in the city recently visiting Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Raney, relatives of 2615 Corpew avenue.

Major Raney, whose former home address was 271 Pine street, Suffolk, Va., is married to Nathaniel Service Group, but who now resides in Oakland, Calif.

"I have enjoyed my tour of duty." said Major Raney, and added, "The cooperation of nurse personnel made by success possible."

She entered the service at Fort Bragg, N.C., as a first lieutenant and received her captaincy at Tuskegee Army Air Field where she was the first Negro nurse to hold the position of chief nurse in any Army hospital, in which capacity she served for two years. 

From TAAF she was transferred to Fort Huachuca, Ariz., where she remained for six months as chief nurse, then to Camp Beale, Calif. where she officiated [[obscured]]
