New York.

Gentlemen:

Your letter of 17th inst. was duly received, stating that you have sent on approval a copy of the new edition of Irving’s “Rip Van Winkle”. The book has not yet been received, and if it has not been forwarded, I do not think it will be necessary for you to do so as I doubt very much that this new edition will interest me any.

The copy of “Fire and Sword” has been received. Accept my thanks for the information concerning Campbell’s poems given in yours of 18th inst. I do not care to purchase the set of Rogers’ poems and [[covered]]’Italy” named.

Yours truly,
C.L. Freer
