Gentlemen:

Referring to yours of 8th inst. addressed to Mr. Freer, who is out of the city, he and I discussed the matter of the not[[?]] [[?]]st. fully and we felt that renewal of half the note as named in his letter of 4th inst. was all we were in[[?]] to do or ought to be expected to do. We purchased the note in the ordinary course of business and expected it to be paid at [[?]] and [[?]] only in the view of the strong appeal your Mr. F.W.
