Oct. 31/96.

Mrs. Tatsu Yajima,
Hachiken, Shinkomichi Kado Gion,
Kioto(sic, Kyoto), Japan.

Dear Mrs. Yajima:

Your letter of Oct. 3 is received and I thank you kindly for looking after the iron ring to be used in what you call the hana eke. It has not yet reached me, but Arthur & Bond will send it along before a great while I imagine. Your reference to Tora brings to my mind again a most interesting man and one whose kindness to me I shall long remember.

Our election for President takes place on Tuesday next, and it now looks as if Mr. McKinley would be elected, but this your newspapers will inform you of before my letter arrives.

Should you decide to send your daughter to America for education, and if she should pass through Detroit on her way to whatever place she may eventually live at while in America, I would, as mentioned in my earlier letter, be happy to entertain here for the short visit she might care to make in Detroit. By this I mean that she would have an enjoyable break in her journey and a rest at my home of, say two or three days, while going to New York, Boston, or whatever place at which you may intend her to receive her American training.

Wishing you much happiness and good health, I remain,

Faithfully yours,
Charles L Freer
