Mr. E.G. [illegible],
C/o H. Wunderlich & Co.,
868 Broadway, New York.

Dear Sir:

Your letter of Dec. 27, also the package of lithographs named herein, were [illegible] received. I am disappointed not to have the “Green and Yellow House” but inasmuch as it has gone to the collection of my friend, Mr. Minsfield, I can of course offer no objection as his collection of Whistlers is so much more impressive than mine. I cannot however let this transaction [illegible] with[illegible] protest. Originally you sent six lithographs to me for examination stating the impressions sent were for sale and that if I cared for any or all, to [illegible] on the mount and return to your firm as you wished to show them to other customers, after which the identical impressions would be returned to me. I decided to purchase all six and secured orders for you from Mr. Hecker for six more, after which they were returned to you. Later, instead of sending back the [illegible] to [illegible] I received but four of those originally sent. The [illegible] of the “Green and Yellow House” you explain and I accept your explanation. The impression of the “Red House” sent me is not the one I originally saw, and I return same to you by express to-day. I am surprised that you should have allowed the [illegible]ion.

You may send me invoice for the four lithographs retained, also for the other set, which I had not before seen.

Yours respectfully,
C.L. Freer
