States that the men he has arrested are of a bad character. and that to prove their crimes would be difficult as most of the witnesses are men of the same lawless gang. Requests that an energetic & reliable officer be sent there to take charge of the Bureau, to permit of his organizing freedmens' schools. |

From good authority received, Baker is in Custody being captured in Linden, Endeavored to arrest Guest but failed, not knowing his whereabouts |

States that the resolutions passed at a late meeting in said Town. will be forwarded, are good. but is in doubt as to whether their intentions will be such. Also that one Wm B. Wright a lawyer, should be closely guarded against, having no principle & is prominently engaged in the movement of a convention & having loyal men to represent him in it. &c  Martial Law is necessary in that District to restore order and peace among the inhabitants & do justice to outlaws. &c.  356 |
