SUB-ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER'S (OR AGENT'S) MONTHLY REPORT
on Education of Freedmen and Refugees in Sub-District, State of Georgia in charge of J. M. Hoag. Bvt. Capt. U.S.A. for the Month of November 1868, [in accordance with order contained in Circular No. 5, Bureau R., F., & A.L.]

1. Name of your Sub-District? Sub-Dist. of Savannah

2. Whole number of Refugee or Freedmen's Schools in the District? 8 Day? 1 Night? 8 Sabbath? 

3. Location of Schools? Seven at Beach Institute. one on Bryan St. and one at Porters. Savannah Ga.

4. Whole number of Teachers? 8 White? 4 Colored?

5. Names and post-office address of Day-School Teachers? 
C. W. Sharp "of A.M.A." Supt. for Beach Institute and Bryan St. Schools. James Porter, principle of Porters School. Savannah Ga.

6. Whole number of School-Houses for Freedmen in your District? 1 Their condition, capacity, value, and by whom owned? New. Six hundred. $11000. Built by Bureau upon ground of AMA. Have a church at Darien and a Chapel at Montieth repaired by Bureau in which schools will be opened this 1st day of December.

7. Number of your visits to Schools? = Day? = Night? = Sabbath? 

8. Number of educational meetings held by you during the month? = Where? Sickness prevented. Agt. Holcombe held two meetings at and near N. Newport. Liberty Co. and Agt. Leers held two at #5. CRR, Ga.

9. Number and names of places, now destitute, in which Day-Schools might be organized? Innumerable could an outside support be obtained. Three "Addl" schools will be opened Decr. 1st and more as fast as assistance and cooperation can be secured from without and among people.

11. Amount which would probably be raised by the Freedmen, for school purposes, in each destitute neighborhood? Nothing in some places while in others a half support

12. What efforts are you making to secure the support of schools by pupils, parents, boards of education, or the State government? Holding school meetings and cooperating with A.M.A.

13. Whole number of additional School-houses, for Freedmen, now wanted in your Sub-District? Several could be used to advantage but churches now used make demand less urgent

14. Could you organize your Sub-District into School Districts, each with a School Committee pledged to carry on schools therein? No

15. To what extent would help from without be needed in such cases? From half to an entire support

16. What is the public sentiment as to the education of the Freedmen and Poor Whites? Unfavorable or at least indifferent

17. Are Night-Schools for Adults needed in your District? Yes
In what way could they be carried on? In connection with day schools wherever opened, by aid from without

18. What more can this Bureau do for educating the children of Refugees (or Poor Whites)? Continue its present work of Building Houses, Repairing Churches &c &c and by aiding in payment of teachers

19. How long will Northern charitable aid be needed for Freedmen and Refugee Schools of your District? Until a System of Free Schools is guaranteed
