E.B.197. O.S. 9th Dist. Va. 5. 23 1866.

Bureau RF and A.L.
Hd Qs 9th Dist. Va.
Fort Monroe May 23d 66

Respectfully forwarded for the information of the Asst. Comr.

Proper means are employed to detect the incendiaries and a clue is obtained.

There is no doubt that the six rounds, which were fired from a small piece of artillery kept for holiday purposes, were intended as an expression of general joy at the conflagration

The valuable premises of Mr Bartlett, a loyal man are justly considered in great danger; he has appealed for protection.

It is respectfully suggested that the proper authorities inform the rebels what course will be pursued should these outrages be continued; this is due to the Hon Miss Association and Society of Friends who have large interests in this District, and to the Bureau which is about to expend considerable money in erecting School houses. Authority is hereby asked to compel the County of York to restore this building burned by returned rebels.
