Office of Asst. Supt. R.F. & A.L.
New Kent C.H. Va. July 28. 1866.

Gen'l. S.C. Armstrong
Supt. 5th Dist. of Va.
Fort Monroe Va.

Sir:
I have the honor to report that Jackson Burwell, freed boy, was arrested on complaint of A.G. Jones M.D. of this county for insulting his (Jones') wife.

Burwell was tried on the 25th inst. and in default of $75., security to keep the peace, was sent to jail for twelve months.

These facts coming to my knowledge I addressed the Justice that tried the case, on the subject; his reply is enclosed.

Burwell is now in Jail in Richmond whither he was sent before I knew the case had been investigated.

Very Respectfully
