Office Asst Supt.
York & James City Co's
Yorktown Va.
Nov 13. 1866

Respectfully returned with information that most of the within mentioned classes are now subsisting on the small crop of corn which will not last them the remainder of the year and when this is gone unless relief is afford them they must starve for during the winter season work cannot be found for them even if they were willing to accept proposals. The land upon which many of them now live is applied for by the owners and they must move, and what disposition the officer in charge of this office is to make of them is not known
