Wise Farm Princess Anne Co. Va, 
November 7th, 1866

Personally appeared before me (Morton Havens Lt VRC and Asst Supt R.F. and A. L. for the above named Co) Lizzie Brinkley (colored) who being duly sworn deposed as follows.

That on Sunday the 28th day of October 1866 she in company with Maria Brinkley and Sarah Frank (colored) were riding along the public Road in a cart that when near Kempsville of the above Co. they came up with one Will Dozier (white) who was riding in a buggy, that she turned to the right as far as she could, and as is customary, in order to let Dozier pass, that it seems she did not turn far enough so that Dozier came in contact with her, and that Dozier swore and cursed her saying that he had a great mind to get out and smash their heads open, and that he violently struck her across the neck with a whip or birch he carried in his hand. That she entered her complaint, against Dozier, before a magistrate of the above Co (Mr. Woodhouse) that the magistrate
