Captain:
I have the honor to make the following report in regard to the enclosed statement of Wm Brown (col'd)

Wm Brown (col'd) left his wife some time since, the children were left with her and he has never done anything to help support them, and now he only claims the two older ones as he has hired them out for his benefit. The children were bound to Mr. Evans by Lieut. Scott who preceded me in this Dist. not by the clerk of the civil court: the mother gave her consent in writing and before a Justice of the Peace to save her walking
