I have the honor to report that the disturbance which occurred here on night of Feb 28th was as I supposed all over, until yesterday evening, when numerous gentlemen came to me and reported that a attempt would be made by the gang of Railroad men to rescue their comrades, who were prisoners in my hands, and that they openly declared they would make a clean "raid" through the town. These threats I heard myself together with other threats against my life. There was no organized police and knowing the desperate character of the men, I determined an immediate action. I accordingly ordered the entire gang with their train to leave the town inside of an hour, with some little trouble I succeeded in getting them off. My authority for the latter proceeding may possibly be doubted, if so, I would state that I believed an emergency had arisen, for such action that it was actually necessary
