Statement of Mr R R Lane in regard to a horse in litirgation between John J Barnes and Ned Pincher.

On the 27th of April I was on the plantation of Mr Barnes as his Overseer. At the time that the United States soldiers took the mules I was not where the hands were at work. But on going during the day to the place I found that three mules belonging to Barnes had been taken out of the ploughes and were absent. The horse in dispute was at the time eating grass some hundred yard off. By Mr Barnes orders he was takes to his house and has been in his possession ever since. On the day the [[strikethrough]] horse [[/strikethrough]] mules was taken Ned Pincher was not ploughing but [[strikethrough]] [[in another part of the plantation?]] [[/strikethrough]] planting corn.

About a week after after the horse was left on Barnes plantation Ned Pincher left Barnes employment, and never within my knowledge [[strikethrough]] had [[/strikethrough]] received any title to the horse till a short time ago. At the time that the horse was left on Mr Barnes place he was in very bad condition and it was thought at the time that he could not live And did but five days service during the season_ Given at Clarksville March 26th 1866

R. R. Lane.
