Jacob Shanks sworn

I was about 50 or 60 yards from the house when this occurance took place. I heard a pistol shot I was called to the house by the Dr sending Eddy one of the little black boys.
I heard the Dr call the girl (Jane) and tell her to come back as he did not intend to hurt her. He (the Dr) wanted to hear what she had to say. I then heard another shot and saw the girl Jane laying down.
I did not see her fall, I then went down there. The Dr came where she was laying down, and examined the wound and told her he was very sorry that he had done it and that he did not intend to do it. Jane told him that she did not believe that he intended to hit her.
Mr Yates Lucy & I took her up and carried to the house and fixed a bed on the floor and layed her on it. George P. Perry the Doctor's son came home about sunset he was very drunk.
He went into the house and found his mother and sister in distress. He then went down to the house where the girl Jane lay and I went directly after him. He went in and asked her what she had been telling about his mother and she told him that to out of there she did not want anything to do with him then he struck her on the head with his pistol. I did not see him stomp her. His Father told him that the girl was shot and to come out of there which he did and said he was sorry for it.
