I have the honor to report that on the 9th inst' I procured a conveyance to bring me from Smithfield to Suffolk Va: the driver named John Brett a nephew of Rob't D. Marshall who keeps a tavern at Smithfield Va. related to me the following while we were traveling along the road.

In the month of Feb'y 1865 a portion of the 20th N.Y. Cav' under command of Major Gates went to the Isle of Wight County Va. and encamped on Edwin Chapmans farm
then ocupied by my uncle Rob't. D. Marshall which is situated three miles from Zuni Station on the Norfolk and Petersburg Road.
