was at that time discharged.

I saw on the road a yankey mounted turn towards the woods where he dismounted tied the reins of his horse around his wrist and layed down and went to sleep.

I informed a rebel scout about the said yankey when the scout and my self repaired to the woods where the yankey was asleep.

The scout with a knife cut the yankey's throat, rifled his pockets of fifteen (15) dollars in federal notes, took off his boots then dragged him farther into the woods where we dug a hole and threw him into it.

The body of the said yankey can easily be found.

The yankeys horse a large black with equipments I sold for eight hundred (800) dollars in Confederate notes to a man of Hampton, Va. }

This is the most atrocious murder that has ever come under my notice and I deem it a duty to submit it for your consideration
