three pistol shots and a yelling. Have known Long 12 or 14 yrs. I didn't recognize one of the horsemen as him. There were arms in the crowd but not on the horsemen. The white man was between the horses, walking slowly, not being dragged. The mulatto had him in in his left hand. They were about 50 yds. from me.

On the 16th April while coming from [Mosely's?]] down Nicholson St.  Met Hile and Ned Long with Whitehurst. One had him by the hand on shoulder, the other (Long) by the hair. They delivered him over to two darkies on foot and Long said "that is the way to serve the White Sons of bitches" and they turned off toward the stand. The men on foot carried him home, one under each arm. It was about 100 yds from Church St. into Nicholson St. that I met the men, I heard pistols fired before I met them. It seemed like W. could hardly walk. They were holding him up. I can't say whether his feet touched the ground. I was alone.  Ned had W. in his left hand. W. was a Confederate soldier. He had no uniform on. I was a Confederate soldier. I had a uniform jacket on, they
