fired. We shouted at them to keep back as they would get into a [[fuss?]]; that if they wanted protection they could get it from the guardhouse. I afterward saw two mounted men with a man between them, leading him. They turned into Nicholson st. A crowd was about them. Dont know who they were.

Long was acting as Marshal on the 16th of April. A pistol was heard and when the crowd started, he told them not to leave. I afterward saw two mounted men with Whitehurst. I suppose it was. I did not recognize any of them. They were 125 yds off. They took him into Nicholson st.
