General Scofield Dec 3rd 1866

Sir
I herewith send you a true copy of a contract between my self on the one part, & Capt W. H. H. Frye (guardian of colored orphans of Northumberland and Lancaster Co's) on the other part, to know from you whether or not it is a legal contract, whether or not the present incumbent
Lieut Busby, has a right to revoke said
contract. I wish to state all the circumstances & desire that you will be so kind as to give me your opinion. They are two little negros which I bought in Richmond during the war, & having no friends or relations here had them bound to me because I knew that I could & would take good care of them as any one else. They left me about two weeks ago, as I believe through the persuasions of envious or designing person, for I assure you, as I can prove by abundant testimony, they had no just cause.

They have been humanely & kindly treated as all my neighbors can testify. It is true that they have, as it was natural they should make some excuse
