I would also most respectfully ask that I may be authorized, to make a temporary contract with a Medical Officer, for duty at City Point, there being none I can send there, and precautions and vaccinations, more general than can be made by the medical officer in charge of soldiers there are needed.

I would also be glad to employ temporary aid for Dr. Pratt at Petersburg, and also, to attend to a few cases existing at Hicksford, and for vaccinating there.

These contracts if [[strikethrough]] properly [[/strikethrough]] promptly made, I trust need not continue long, and may prevent a much larger expense in employing Medical officers at different portions of the state, if the disease is not arrested.
