Bureau R.F. and A.L.
Office Asst Supt
Charlottesville May 22 /66

Respectfully returned to Major T.F.P. Crandon whose attention is invited to Mr Massie's memorandum. Every one in Court was satisfied of the justice of the decision. I did decline to produce in evidence a private letter from an Officer in Green Co. Va. because had I done so, I would have had to produce a subsequent one

which might have made the officer liable, it retracting all the first letter stated.

Genl Steadman heard verbally the whole case, and stated that the decision could not be otherwise.

Mr Diggs has had fifteen persons with him and they cannot remain with him.

Mr Massie is a gentleman, Lawyer and Magistrate and honest man. and whatever he states is correct.
