contentedly at Mr Diggs' until called for by her parents_ and that Mr Digges was a kind an indulgent man. and that a better home could not easily be found for her._ The woman herself on being questioned admitted it to be a good home; but on being asked as to the terms of the contract said she did not recollect, it, except that she was to have her victuals and clothes_

It was also shown by the testimony that. Mr Digges. had hired eight or ten others and that, the effect of permitting this woman to violate her contract would be injurious with other hirelings on his premises, and in the neighborhood and would probably give him much trouble_

Upon these facts. the plaintiff moved the court to remand the defendant to his custody, but the court overruled such motion and decided that the contract between the plaintiff [[strikethrough]] was void [[/strikethrough]] and defendant was void - and should be cancelled and that said woman Jane Starke should remain in the employment of said R H Munday - from which decision, the plaintiff desires an appeal.

I Wm H Crank one of the associates of the Freedmens' Court for Albemarle County do hereby certify that the foregoing are the facts substantially proven. before the court on the trial of this cause, so far as I am now enabled to. write them out from memory -

Given under my hand this 13th day of April 1866 -
