checked it after the first cases. At the present time there are but few places where there are any existing cases, and I trust soon whe shall have a clean record, as far as this disease is concerned. At City Point where there were a considerable number of cases at the outset, and many had been exposed so long, before the first case occurred that prevention was impossible. The disease has been entirely controlled, no new case having occurred in nearly twenty days, and I have directed the Hospital closed, until some further demand, shall make it necessary to reopen it.

In the meantime I am making every exertion to prepare to meet the cholera, if it should unfortunately reach us.

If you can make it convenient to visit us it would give me great pleasure to see you, and form a personal acquaintance.
