   The poor woman's dying request was I should take one of her children a little boy six years old by the name of John, and was to write to her brothers to take charge of the other three, which I have done, one is afflicted and not fit for service,  I have taken him under my shelter 'till his friends come for him.  Lieut Hopkins would provide no coffin for the woman, to be buried in, The citizen obtained one by Subscription.

   I presume I have annoyed the Lieut. by following him up to do his duty, as yesterday he called on me and demanded the child.  I refused give him up except by the consent of the childs relations.  The Lieut reply was he did not consider the coloured had to be consulted on the subject - unknown to me the Lieut entered my kitchen
