who has served in the South. Perhaps I have less patience with such persons than I ought to have, and if I have fallen short of my duty in any manner, it has been in not stepping aside to please them, although I have never been otherwise than polite to them.

I enclose you a certificate, and an extract from a private letter to myself from Lieut. P. H. Andrews, formerly one of Mrs. H's. boarders of whom she speaks. The Lieut's remarks refer to the old lady.
