Office Inspector Q.M. Department,
Charleston S.C. May 10, 1866.

To
Ass't. Coms'r. Freedman's Bureau,
Department of Virginia,
Richmond, Va.

Dear Sir:-
Will you please be kind enough to give me the total number of persons, to whom rations were issued through the Bureau, for the months of Jan'y, Feb'y, & March, each 1866; and the number of white & colored persons respectively? Also the estimated population of Virginia, white & colored respectively. If not able to specify for all the months, please give for what month or months you can.

I make this request unofficially, but am collecting the same statistics from most of the Southern States, and shall appreciate the courtesy, if you feel at liberty to extend it.
