Sir,

I am informed that Captain Smith, Supt of the "Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands" in Leesburg has instructions to take possession of any property, in reference to which proceedings were heretofore instituted in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia -- I will state as briefly as I can certain facts in reference to the matter and give copies of such papers in my possession or away seems necessary.

First - I have the President's pardon dated Sept 6th, 1865
Second - I have a letter of which the following is a copy, sir;
