be pd at any place in Richd_ If so, I will either take Jones to the city & see it pd, or will get my Agents [[?]] & S [[?]] & Co to see it pd or secured.  How should I advise him to dispose of it? From a Savings Bank, I suppose!  Rather than he should take the loss of it, I will give him 8 percent (I am sure that is legal by now) secured by bond to the Fre'd Bureau, but had rather not.

I hired a farm hand Tempe King in Rich'd the 23 March, who whiped two of my boys, & then absconded for fear of punishment from his fellow laborers.  He owes me $10 & if I could make him pay it to the boys, I think it might be of service to him & to others like himself.
