March 4/97,

Mr. Enrique Baer,
Hotel Vendeme, Oor. 41st St. & Broadway,
New York City

Dear Sir:
Your esteemed letter dated Feb. 27, also copy of the Goncourt Catalogue, are at hand and carefully noted. I thank you for the catalogue and also for the privilege of submitting bids through you. Will you be good enough to cable to your principal the following offers for my account:

No. 164, 200 francs,
191, 500 francs
209, 100 francs
224, 260 francs
256, 100 francs
293, 750 francs
346, 75 francs

You will understand by these figures I mean that the sums named are the limit up to which I am willing to go, and you will of course if possible secure the articles at lower prices if the circumstances permit.

Will you kindly bear in mind that, if I should fail to secure either of the five pieces prior to the sale of No. 295, I will be willing to pay up to 1,000 francs for No. 295. If, on the other hand, either or all of the other five earlier pieces are secured for me, then I desire that my bid for 295 shall not exceed 750 francs.

I regret that I am without information concerning the kakemono in the same collection. Have you a copy of the supplementary catalogue? If so, will you mail it to me on receipt hereof, as it probably contains things I would be glad to submit offers on.

Yours very truly,
Charles L Freer
