July 20/97

My dear Mansfield:

Your note sent to the Waldorf Hotel reached there after I had started for Detroit and was forwarded to me here. Friday noon I found myself so nearly worn out I decided to get away from New York at once and left on the six o'clock train that evening. Since then I have been resting and am feeling all right again today.

I am disappointed in not having seen you here. I hoped for a couple of days' visit with you and also to have shown you a pair of screens by Tanya recently received which I am sure would delight you. However, they will keep and I trust that I shall have the pleasure of showing them to both yourself and Mrs. Mansfield later in the season.

Faithfully,
Charles L. Freer
