A E I The vowels A E I O U and Y are used to classify the names, so that five-sixths of the time is saved in looking for a name. This is effected by writing the name in the column where its first vowel appears. Thus, Chas. Ford, under O; Miller & Metcalf, under I. Half the time can be saved in indexing by writing with indelible pencil instead of ink, thus doing away with the blotters and their repeated turning. Y Z Yamanaka & Co. 22. 49. 50. 51. 52. 53. 54. 55. 59. 64. 77. 78. 82. 114. 136. 158. 209. 315½. 331. 344. 350. 371. 469. 530. 538. 544. 563. 656. 659. Yasima, Tatsu. 28. 58. Yamanaka, S. 69.
