Mr. James M. Hart,
220 Boylston St.,
Boston, Mass.

Dear Sir:

The package of prints by Whistler was safely received but other matters prevented thorough examination of same until today. I have looked them through carefully and find that my collection already contains impressions of all which I particularly care to possess. The “Portrait of Arthur” is fine but no finer than the superb impression from the same plate purchased by me years ago. On the other hand, the impression of the “Renaissance Windows” I feel is inferior to my impression, yours being less brilliant. However, I am possibly criticizing needlessly, but I am led to give my views simply because of your special reference to these particular prints.

As to the lithographs mentioned, I doubt if your lot will include say new to me as a package reached me only two weeks ago direct from Mr. Whistler which I think contained all his later work. His earlier work, with a very few exceptions, I have complete. However, if you desire to send on what you may receive, with the chances of my purchasing as slim as they are and of which I deem it only fair to advise you, you may do so.

The prints are all returned to you to-day by express, charges prepaid.

Yours truly,
Charles L. Freer
