to be along the proper lines. Payments of subscriptions are being met with celerity, and in fact all machinery incident to the consolidation seems to be moving smoothly and well.

Mr. Sixby and I spent last Saturday in Chicago visiting with Mr. Meysenburg and inspecting the Wells and French Plant. We were delighted with all we saw. Mr. Meysenburg's business is in fine shape and his plant has greater possibilities than I had imagined.

Now as to the Treasurer. I cannot help feeling that you are the man who should assume this office as soon as you return to St.Louis. It could be arranged that your oversight only would be necessary. The work could be detailed to others and the Company would gain by your acceptance, suggestions and advice of very great value. I do hope you will decide to become our Treasurer. 

The continued attention to many details in connection with our undertaking proved a little too much for my strength. During the last two weeks I have had several uncomfortable days, I shall remain here as much of this week as possible, hoping to refresh myself for the remaining work assigned me.

Mr. Bixby has doubtless written you of our final talk with Mr. Sanders. I think very well indeed of him, but it occurred to all of the gentlemen in interest that it would be wiser to postpone making permanent arrangements with him until more attention could be given the subject.

Now as regards interesting your son, William, in the foreign department. I am glad to say that there is no doubt at all in my mind that every member of the Board will be pleased to adopt your
