January 17th, 1900.

Mr. Lucian Sellinetti,
Care of Grand Hotel,
Naples, Italy.

My dear Sir:-
The letter you wrote me during last November was late in reaching me because of my absence from Detroit. When it finally came into my possession, it was too late to communicate with you by wire concerning the antiquities mentioned wherein. Furthermore, even if the letter had reached me promptly, it would have been quite impossible for me to have judged as closely as I should like to concerning the articles offered for sale. Really, one should see such things before purchasing them. In stating this, I want you to feel that I have no fear, whatever, of their genuineness, nor do I doubt your judgement in such matters; but I am sure you will understand me when I say that while some objects would be very interesting to me, others I might not care for at all.

Now, that Mr. Jerome and I have a villa on Capri at our command, we shall both of time, probably, be in Italy much more frequently in the future. In fact, Mr. Jerome may decide to spend a grant deal of his time near Naples. It is almost certain that one or both of us will visit Naples within six months.

I have received several very pleasant lessons from Mr.
